
Let’s Talk About Industrial Halogen Heating Lamps
Ever wonder why these lamps can handle so much heat without just popping? It’s all about the halogen gas cycle. Basically, it keeps the tungsten particles moving back onto the filament, which keeps everything clean. Because of that, we can push these things to temperatures that would make a regular lightbulb melt. You aren’t just warming the surface of your material, either. You’re getting short-wave infrared radiation that actually sinks deep into the product. It’s a different kind of heat. The nitty-gritty on power When we’re picking a lamp, we’re really looking at heat flux. Here is the thing: if you want a longer tube—say 300mm or 500mm—you need a higher voltage, like 400V. Why? Because it stops the temperature from dropping off as you move away from the ends. You want that heat to be steady all the way across. If your power supply and wattage aren’t playing nice, you’ll end up with cold spots. Or worse, the lamp will just burn out way too soon. Glass and plugs We use high-purity quartz glass because it can take a beating. When you go from cold to screaming hot in a split second, most glass would shatter. Quartz doesn’t. Some of our tubes have special coatings to protect them from gunk or to tweak how the heat hits your project. As for the connectors, we usually stick with R7s or Sk15. R7s is the one you’ll see most often. It’s great because when a lamp finally dies, you can just pop it out and slide a new one in. No rewiring, no headache, no downtime. Putting them to work These are the workhorses for things like PET blowing, powder coating, or welding plastic. The best part? They hit full temp almost instantly. It’s fast. Really fast. And that saves you a ton of time on your production line. But a word of caution: these things put out an incredible amount of energy. If your housing doesn’t have enough vents or your fans are too weak, you’re going to warp your reflectors. Just make sure your machine can actually breathe. You don’t want to accidentally melt your own equipment because you underestimated the heat.
