
Let’s Talk About the 220V 1500W Ruby IR Heater
We built these ruby-coated halogen lamps for when you need a massive hit of short-wave infrared heat—and you need it now. At 1500W and 220V, these things don’t mess around. They hit the surface hard and fast. You won’t be standing around waiting for a ceramic element to slowly warm up. It’s almost instant.
The Nitty-Gritty on Power
Here is the thing about the 1500W output: it packs a lot of energy into a very tight window. To keep the lamp from burning itself out, we use a halogen cycle. This stops the tungsten filament from evaporating and gunking up the inside of the quartz. It keeps the glass clear and makes the heater last a lot longer. Just a heads-up: you really need a steady 220V power supply. If your voltage jumps around, the lamp will flicker or the filament might just snap. Plus, if the voltage drifts, your temperature drifts, and that usually messes up whatever you’re trying to make.
Why the “Ruby” Coating Matters
You’ll notice the glass has a reddish tint. That’s the ruby coating. Standard clear quartz just lets everything through. But this coating filters the light, shifting the energy so your materials soak it up more efficiently. Less wasted light, more heat exactly where it needs to be on your workpiece. We use quartz because it can take a beating. You can blast these with high current and they won’t crack. But—and this is a big but—**keep the glass clean.**If you touch the envelope with your bare hands, the oils from your skin create hotspots. Those hotspots will blow the tube. Simple as that.
Putting Them to Work
Most people swap these into PET blowing, shrink wrapping, or powder curing lines. If you’re chasing fast cycle times, these are your best bet because the energy penetrates the surface so quickly. But be careful. 1500W in such a small package creates an incredible amount of radiant heat. Make sure your reflectors and housing can actually handle that load. If there’s no airflow, your sockets and wiring are going to fry. Do yourself a favor: use high-temp leads when you wire these up. Your future self will thank you.
