
Getting Your Ink to Dry Right with Halogen IR Lamps
When you’re running a printing line, you need heat—and you need it now. You can’t have ink smearing, but you also can’t be scorching your materials. That’s where our halogen infrared lamps come in. They basically blast a concentrated beam of energy straight into the ink, drying it out in a heartbeat. Let’s talk power. The wattage and voltage are what give these lamps their “punch.” If you’re running a high-speed press, you need those high-wattage tubes to keep up. But here is the tricky part: your power supply has to be a perfect match for the lamp. If you undervolt it, the ink won’t cure evenly. If you overvolt it? You’ll fry the filament in a matter of hours. It’s a delicate balance, but getting it right is the only way to keep the line moving. The build quality matters. We use high-purity quartz glass because this stuff takes a beating. These lamps go from cold to screaming hot in seconds, and quartz is one of the few things that won’t crack under that kind of thermal shock. Some of our tubes even have special coatings. Instead of wasting heat on the paper or plastic, the energy stays focused right where it belongs: on the ink. And please, don’t overlook the connectors. We use standard R7s or SK15 fittings to keep things tight. A loose connection is a nightmare—it creates an arc that can melt your socket and kill the lamp instantly. Fitting them into your setup. The beauty of these lamps is that they usually slide right into most industrial arrays. They’re small, but they pack a massive amount of heat into a tiny space. Because of that, you’ve got to watch your airflow. If your fans or exhaust ducts are too small, the heat just sits there. Before you know it, the ambient temperature climbs so high it can actually warp your machine frame. Plus, give the lamps some breathing room. If they’re too crowded, you’ll get “hot spots” that bleed right through your printing medium. Keep them spaced out, keep the air moving, and you’re golden.
